UPDATE: William Hemphill Killed in Alleged Drunk Driving Accident in Staten Island, New York

Officials from the New York State Police have released the identity of the individual killed in a road accident in Staten Island, NY on Friday, October 4th, 2013, according to WABC. Police currently have reason to believe William Hemphill was killed when he was struck by a vehicle for reasons currently under investigation as he walked along or attempted to cross Richmond Terrace.

According to the statement released by authorities, William Hemphill sustained massive injuries in the accident and was subsequently transported by emergency response personnel when they arrived. The driver of the offending vehicle has since been identified as Joseph McClean, an off-duty police officer, who currently faces drunk driving related charges stemming from the accident. The investigation into the fatal accident remains active and ongoing.
